The perks of doing a property deal in Melbourne’s mid-winter

Some Melbourne homeowners are ignoring the cold weather and cooling property prices, to list their properties for sale during the traditionally quiet winter period.

Spring is a more conventional time to sell as gardens bloom. But this year vendors are mindful that more interest rates are on the horizon and their property will face more competition from other sellers in the busier spring market, and are hoping to make the most of selling sooner.

Others are pushing ahead with sales due to lifestyle changes such as a growing family or a need to downsize.

This weekend, 630 auctions have been scheduled across the city, including 111 in inner Melbourne, 61 in the inner east and 77 in the inner south, Domain data shows. Auction clearance rates in recent weeks have been between 50 and 60 per cent.
