Thornbury: 123-year-old period home for sale conceals striking backyard renovation

It’s no secret the Thornbury area has boomed over the past 10 years – initially among young professionals who were attracted to its “trendy” lifestyle, local eateries and proximity to the CBD and neighbouring suburbs like Northcote.

But the north side ‘burb’s popularity is continuing to soar, with buyers who have spent decades living south of the river now making the switch to the Darebin area. nd it’s reflected in the property prices too.

A typical house in Thornbury now costs $1.358m, PropTrack data shows, nearly doubling its median price 10 years ago of $692,500, and rising by 16.1 per cent in the past three years alone.

Jellis Craig Northcote auctioneer Stefan Di Loreto said the current demographic of buyers in the area comprised a “massive mix”.
